The bearing ring and the rolling element of the rolling bearing are repeatedly subjected to rolling contact while being repeatedly exposed to high contact pressure. Performance required for ferrule and rolling element data: high rolling fatigue strength, high hardness, high abrasion resistance, high maintenance frame data, required performance: good dimensional stability, high mechanical strength, and good workability. Depending on its use, it is also required to have good impact resistance, heat resistance, and erosion resistance.

Information on rings and rolling elements: Ferrules and rolling elements usually use high carbon chromium bearing steel. Most of the bearings use SUJ2 in JIS steel. Large bearings use SUJ3. The chemical composition of SUJ2 has been standardized as a material for sliding bearings in various countries around the world. For example: AISL52100 (USA), DIN100Cr6 (West Germany), BS535A99 (UK) are all the same steel.

In the case of impact resistance, chrome steel, chrome molybdenum steel, nickel chrome molybdenum steel are used as bearing materials, and carburizing and quenching are used to make the steel have a softening layer from the appearance to the appropriate depth. Carburizing bearings with proper softening depth, fine structure, suitable hardness and core hardness, have superior impact resistance than bearings using bearing steel, and the chemical composition of individual carburizing bearing steel.

NSK implements a vacuum degassing solution, so the data used is high in purity, low in oxygen content, and good in quality. Furthermore, a proper thermal solution was adopted to significantly improve the rolling fatigue life of the bearing.

In addition to the above-mentioned steel types, high-speed steels with excellent heat resistance and stainless steels with good corrosion resistance are also used according to their special applications.
